These are challenging times for many people.  All of us at The Preppy Princess feel a responsibility to help out wherever and whenever we are able.  We've found two non-profit groups that are providing innovative support to deserving people nationwide.  The work these groups is doing is so impressive The Preppy Princess will donate five percent of the net profits from your purchase to whichever of the two groups you specify during checkout.  You are in no way obligated to make a selection.  Your final purchase price will not be impacted by your decision.  We hope you'll consider directing us to send a donation to one of these two groups.  Before you make your choice please learn more about the groups.

Who would have thought that one dog rescued from a Southern Oregon pound three decades ago could spark innovative changes in caring for the hard of hearing?  Dogs For The Deaf is a registered 501(c)(3) located in beautiful Central Point, Oregon.  For 30 years the group has adopted dogs from shelters in Oregon, Washington and California.  Hearing Dogs are trained to alert to the sounds: fire/smoke alarm, telephone, door knock, doorbell, oven timer, alarm clock, and name call.   In some cases a dog may be trained for the baby cry. Over 3,000 dogs have been placed in homes as Hearing Dogs, Miracle Mutts (Special Dogs for Special People), and Career Change Dogs.  You see, not every dog becomes a Hearing Dog.  Some dogs are better suited to become Miracle Mutts, special furry friends who provide companionship, motivation, and emotional support to people who need a helping paw. These dogs help with depression and loneliness; they provide a reason to get up in the morning and motivation to exercise; and they generally make life more worth living.  Others might become Harmony's Hounds (Dogs with Special Needs) because they have a special physical or emotional need and are looking for someone willing to provide a stable, loving home and any special care they might need with things like on-going medical concerns, old age, anxiety issues, allergies, and seizures. In the right, special environment, these dogs can thrive and provide lots of love.  Since every dog has a special talent to share some become Career Change Dogs,  wonderful dogs that make loving pets and companions.

The Princess has a soft spot in her heart for this group.  She's seen first-hand how hard these good people work with the dogs.  The love and patience knows no boundaries.  But love doesn't pay the veterinarian, food and housing bills.  That's where all of us can help.  If you'd like more information please visit the Dogs For The Deaf website.

Never in the history of the world has any soldier sacrificed more for the freedom and liberty of total strangers than the American soldier. - Zell Miller (D) Georgia 2004.
I am, by nature, not a political person.  I hear all the arguments for and against our troops fighting overseas.  While people are talking the fighting continues.  Even if you don’t support the war I hope you will support the warrior.   Here is a way you can comfort the brave men and women who have answered the call of their nation.
The Fisher House™ program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need. The program recognizes the special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and the hardships of military service by meeting a humanitarian need beyond that normally provided by the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs.  How are they meeting the need?
Because members of the military and their families are stationed worldwide and must often travel great distances for specialized medical care, Fisher House™ Foundation donates "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times - during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury.
There is at least one Fisher House™ at every major military medical center to assist families in need and to ensure that they are provided with the comforts of home in a supportive environment. Annually, the Fisher House™ program serves more than 10,000 families, and have made available nearly 2.5 million days of lodging to family members since the program originated in 1990. By law, there is no charge for any family to stay at a Fisher House operated by the Department of Veterans Affairs; and Fisher House Foundation uses donations to reimburse the individual Fisher Houses operated by the Army, Navy, and Air Force. No family pays to stay at any Fisher House!
Fisher House™ Foundation is a not-for-profit organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code.  I urge you to learn more about the remarkable work that is being done for the members of America’s Armed Forces and their families.  During checkout please consider instructing The Preppy Princess to donate 5% of the net profits from your purchase to the Fisher House.

The Princess will make donations to these non-profits throughout calendar year 2009.  There is no minimum donation; there is no maximum donation.  Donations will be made in the amount of 5% of the total net profits from sales in which the customer has designated a specific non-profit.  One donation per total purchase.  The Preppy Princess, LLC is in no way associated with Dogs For The Deaf or The Fisher Foundation.
